Creativity and New Media

These are some of the photos I've taken in the past. The first photo was taken in India in 2014 using an iPad 2. For the first picture I haven't added any effects whereas for the second picture I added a filter and changed the contrast. For the last picture I took it with a iPhone 5s in 2016 (USA). I haven't made any changes in the last picture but it is visible of changes that can be seen in the picture. There is a wide array of colors in the last picture and it clearly visible compared to the 2014 pictures.

HW Creativity

New media fosters creativity in various manners. One of the ways media fosters creativity is through mashups.  Brooke Barnes NY Times is providing an example of mashups: " YouTube users started posting the videos, set to “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” by the rapper Soulja Boy, about five months ago." This was in 2007. As time as went on mashups became memes then vines and eventually Tik-Tok. Often times companies allowed such mashups to stay online even though they are technically pirated is because people often use small clips and it is also bringing more fame to their product. It is a symbiotic relationship where one can lead each to more success. Mashups are famous because of their catchiness and the way we see something in a new light. It is funny to Spongebob do something not related to the show or taking something Spongebob said out of context which can make it more entertaining. Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual worlds is one of the more fascinating ideas as we took a step forward to the 21st century. Virtual worlds can be and have been used for various purposes over the years.  One of the best features of virtual worlds is the recreation of something:  this could be something new or something one experienced in the past. The article In Room 100, It's Sid and Nancy All Over Again by Saki Knafo demonstrates this. Hotel Chelsea which used to have an authentic feel which catered to a large amount of artists. But once the hotel was acquired by a corporate management they fired the longtime manager and increased rent. These changes lead to a lot of artists leaving. But after a while Mr. Brown who always wanted to live in the legendary hotel recreated the hotel on Second Life: a virtual 3-D world. He went on to inform Ed Hamilton, a resident of the Chelsea hotel who ran the blog of the newly created virtual world. This allowed the people who used to love the hotel once again visit a...

Blog about Twitter

Twitter and Blackboard are very different when it comes to their purpose and the demographic it is targeting. Twitter is a social media platform where you can tweet something and it can be seen by millions of people. Twitter's main purpose is communicating. Blackboard is mainly used by colleges and it is an educational tool.  Blackboard's main purpose is so that professors can post notes regarding class and students use it for submitting assignments given to them by their professors. Since Blackboard is an educational tool, no plagiarism or any form of cheating is not allowed. Blackboard also has a discussion board which is a bit outdated in way it is structured. Blackboard is also a secure website. Twitter follows a format in which a person can only type up to 280 characters per tweet. Twitter is always up to date and you can easily figure out what's going on in the world with a few clicks. The way news is distributed makes Twitter an exceptional communication device when ...

Blog: Social networking sites

I will comparing and sharing what I think about the following 4 social networking sites:  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. Facebook and Instagram are very similar. They are operated by the same company and have many of the same features. Facebook is a bit more dense in terms of content and not very phone friendly when you compare it to Instagram. Instagram was specifically developed for the phone and it can be seen from its layout. It is very user friendly and has a variety of features.  Snapchat was originally meant to be for showing a picture or a video for just for 24 hours and it disappears afterwords. Snapchat also has the feature of streaks which is sending your friend a photo/video every single day. In the past few years both Instagram and Facebook introduced their own version of snapchat stories which provides tough competition for Snapchat as they have to improvise and improve their product constantly. Snapchat also has the feature of letting someone know if...
