New media fosters creativity in various manners. One of the ways media fosters creativity is through mashups.
Brooke Barnes NY Times is providing an example of mashups: "YouTube users started posting the videos, set to “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” by the rapper Soulja Boy, about five months ago." This was in 2007. As time as went on mashups became memes then vines and eventually Tik-Tok. Often times companies allowed such mashups to stay online even though they are technically pirated is because people often use small clips and it is also bringing more fame to their product. It is a symbiotic relationship where one can lead each to more success. Mashups are famous because of their catchiness and the way we see something in a new light. It is funny to Spongebob do something not related to the show or taking something Spongebob said out of context which can make it more entertaining.
