Blog: Social networking sites

I will comparing and sharing what I think about the following 4 social networking sites:  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.

Facebook and Instagram are very similar. They are operated by the same company and have many of the same features. Facebook is a bit more dense in terms of content and not very phone friendly when you compare it to Instagram. Instagram was specifically developed for the phone and it can be seen from its layout. It is very user friendly and has a variety of features.

Snapchat was originally meant to be for showing a picture or a video for just for 24 hours and it disappears afterwords. Snapchat also has the feature of streaks which is sending your friend a photo/video every single day. In the past few years both Instagram and Facebook introduced their own version of snapchat stories which provides tough competition for Snapchat as they have to improvise and improve their product constantly. Snapchat also has the feature of letting someone know if something they posted was screenshot. It adds an additional layer of security to the user.

Twitter main focus is on the idea of tweeting and the use of hashtags. At any moment you can see what topic is trending. If something controversial happens in politics chances are it will be trending the next moment on twitter. News travels the fastest on Twitter. You can easily figure out what is trending at certain time in the world through Twitter.

For my idea it's pretty simple. It's a crime detection app. This will let us know if any crime is happening around us presently but keeps the parties involved anonymous or ones that have happened in the past. This could be useful if someone is travelling to a new place and doesn't know anything about it. This will let them know if the area they are living in is safe or dangerous. This app should be run with police as they encounter all of the crimes at a certain place. Maybe it could be run by people but verifying the authenticity of crimes reported could be hard.

Blog about Twitter

Twitter and Blackboard are very different when it comes to their purpose and the demographic it is targeting. Twitter is a social media platform where you can tweet something and it can be seen by millions of people. Twitter's main purpose is communicating. Blackboard is mainly used by colleges and it is an educational tool.  Blackboard's main purpose is so that professors can post notes regarding class and students use it for submitting assignments given to them by their professors. Since Blackboard is an educational tool, no plagiarism or any form of cheating is not allowed. Blackboard also has a discussion board which is a bit outdated in way it is structured. Blackboard is also a secure website. Twitter follows a format in which a person can only type up to 280 characters per tweet. Twitter is always up to date and you can easily figure out what's going on in the world with a few clicks. The way news is distributed makes Twitter an exceptional communication device when ...

Facebook: Good or Bad?

I remember using Facebook as a 10 year old kid by using a fake date of birth. At the time it was crazy to me something like Facebook existed, but as time went by the growth of Facebook and its' influence has always surprised me. For this research paper I would focus on Facebook and the impact it has had in our society from various perspectives such as economical, sociological, technological and moral perspectives. I will discuss the positives and negatives from each perspective. I will also provide examples of the influence Facebook has had over us as a society from each perspective. I will end my paper with my final analysis on how Facebook has impacted us and what the future of Facebook will be.
