Facebook: Good or Bad?

I remember using Facebook as a 10 year old kid by using a fake date of birth. At the time it was crazy to me something like Facebook existed, but as time went by the growth of Facebook and its' influence has always surprised me. For this research paper I would focus on Facebook and the impact it has had in our society from various perspectives such as economical, sociological, technological and moral perspectives. I will discuss the positives and negatives from each perspective. I will also provide examples of the influence Facebook has had over us as a society from each perspective. I will end my paper with my final analysis on how Facebook has impacted us and what the future of Facebook will be.

  1. Hi Libin. It's funny because I did the same thing as a kid to create an account for Facebook. And recently Facebook has been in a lot of trouble for supposedly selling our information. I am interested in your topic and would like to see the pros and cons for each of those perspectives.

For my idea it's pretty simple. It's a crime detection app. This will let us know if any crime is happening around us presently but keeps the parties involved anonymous or ones that have happened in the past. This could be useful if someone is travelling to a new place and doesn't know anything about it. This will let them know if the area they are living in is safe or dangerous. This app should be run with police as they encounter all of the crimes at a certain place. Maybe it could be run by people but verifying the authenticity of crimes reported could be hard.

Virtual worlds can be and have been used for various purposes over the years.  One of the best features of virtual worlds is the recreation of something:  this could be something new or something one experienced in the past. The article In Room 100, It's Sid and Nancy All Over Again by Saki Knafo demonstrates this. Hotel Chelsea which used to have an authentic feel which catered to a large amount of artists. But once the hotel was acquired by a corporate management they fired the longtime manager and increased rent. These changes lead to a lot of artists leaving. But after a while Mr. Brown who always wanted to live in the legendary hotel recreated the hotel on Second Life: a virtual 3-D world. He went on to inform Ed Hamilton, a resident of the Chelsea hotel who ran the blog of the newly created virtual world. This allowed the people who used to love the hotel once again visit a...

One of the easiest ways and tools can be used to improve online communication between professors and students is Zoom. Zoom is easily accessible and easy to use compared to another tool which Blackboard collaborate. Also to increase engagement between students and college is if the college runs TikTok as it is becoming more and more popular.  If possible Baruch could collaborate with some store for example and have a raffle where the winner wins a prize from the company. (ex: Baruch could work with an apparel company and a certain student wins a hoodie if they share a certain post or something).
